Fellow writer and friend Jen Frankel astounds me in her pursuit of all things creative. Last year, she launched her JFFRS! Podcast. JFFRS! stands for “Jen Frankel Reads Random S#it!” (Hope I got the hashtag in the right place. 😉 ) This year, she’s created an addendum to her podcast series called Edition Addition, in which she interviews fellow creatives on the various topics she discusses on her show.
I’m both excited and honoured to be the first interviewed author for Edition Addition, in which we discuss narrative beginnings, the many ways to create and work with first lines, and discuss in depth the openings to The Forgotten Gemstone, The Other Castle, and The Cannibal’s Handbook. The interview is only a little over 30 minutes long, which is a good thing, because I start to lose my clarity toward the end.
Have a listen and let me know what you think.
SHOW NOTES: In addition to my own work, I make reference to the horror novel Mister B. Gone by Clive Barker, which begins with a most urgent first line:
“Burn this book.”
